Kelly Olsen: On the road to Tahiti

My wife Arlene and I in Terminal 2, Los Angeles International Airport waiting for our flight to Tahiti.
I am having a very nostalgic feeling here and everything feels very familiar. Since 1997, I have had the opportunity to host many, many Outrigger Trips. In the early days of our company we hosted 3 and sometimes 4 trips per year. The experience was always the same.
The flight to Tahiti is tiring, as usually we arrive in the very early hours. It is dark and quiet when we arrive. The magic happens upon awaking on the first morning. The sunlight comes through your hotel room window and beckons you out of bed and onto the lanai. The view of Moorea, Tahiti’s sister island just miles off shore, from the Intercontinental Hotel “Beachcomber”, will burn a lasting image into your brain. It is at that moment that you know you are in a very special place secluded from the rest of the world.
The week will progress with many wonderful experiences and activities. Tahiti will become like home to everyone who visits with us. Friendships will be made that will last a lifetime. And then… the time will come to go home. I have to prepare emotionally, because I know what to expect: tears of joy for having had the experience, and tears of sadness because it is coming to an end. The Outrigger affects everyone the same, and that is the wonder of it.
We used to say that if we could get our distributors to Tahiti, we would never lose them. This is what happened to me in 1997 when I first visited Tahiti. Before that time, I was a co-Founder of a very cool new company. After visiting Tahiti, the story and vision became very, very personal. It changed me, and the change continues.
I know, as I write this, that the same experiences will be played out this coming week that have been played out before, and I find myself eager to see it unfold again. I can see the faces of the thousands (yes, thousands) of leaders we have hosted to Tahiti over the years. The photos. The laughter. The unforgettable experiences.
The beauty of the Tahitian Noni International Outrigger Experience is that it is not contrived or scripted, it is real. Those who read this who have been part of one of the past groups know what I mean. The rest have only one recourse. . . qualify and find out for yourself.

Nov 09, 09 at 10:30 pmI’ve had the pleasure of experiencing the magic of the paradis of Tahiti. Truly a lifechanging event. My first trip was actually in 1988 - just for one hour. Sitting in the airport I remember telling myself: “I’ll be back”. I didn’t know then it was an ugly, stinking and badtasting fruit that should bring me back 11 years later on the Outrigger Trip. Since then I’ve been back more visits - and love the islands and the people. And of course TNI who made it all happen!
